I didn’t grow up with confidence. My father lost an arm in a farming accident and never dealt with the trauma. His pain often came out as anger. As the only boy, I worked alongside him—usually in silence and tension. If I made a mistake, like using the wrong tool, there was no explanation—just frustration. That’s where self-doubt began to take root.

My first real taste of confidence came after high school, guiding whitewater rafting trips in Colorado. Navigating the rapids taught me to trust myself and enjoy the moment. Still, I kept chasing worth through quieter means—stacking up degrees, hoping each one would make me feel “enough.” That drive opened doors, but it also left me worn out.

Eventually, I realized something important: confidence doesn’t come from achievements—it comes from healing. It’s about rewriting the internal script that says you’re not enough.

Confidence and motivation are more connected than we realize. When we’re wounded or unaware, motivation can come from a place of fear or striving. That was me for years. But as we grow and heal, our drive begins to shift—it becomes cleaner, more grounded.
